Justin Loves Sound of Duran Duran: Collaboration In The Works

The collaboration is still in the early stages, but a spokesperson for Duran Duran said it will appear on the group's upcoming album. "They are currently trying to schedule more time to get together again and finish the project," the spokesperson said. A rep for Timberlake confirmed the collaboration but did not provide further details.

Duran Duran and an "extremely complimentary" Timberlake first met backstage at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards after the band was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, according to the group's spokesperson.

A year later, at the Brit Awards, Timberlake presented Duran Duran with the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award and later talked about collaborating with them. Duran Duran later decided against it in favor of recording Astronaut, which marked the first album in more than 20 years to feature the original five members (see "Duran Duran Skip Collaborations With Gwen, Justin To Focus On 'The Original Five' ").

Duran Duran, who formed in 1980 and debuted their first single, "Planet Earth," the following year, reconvened their original lineup in 2001. They toured in 2003 (see "Duran Duran Announce North American Tour Dates") and released a new album in 2004 that was three years in the making. Dallas Austin, Don Gilmore and Jason Nevins were among the producers who worked on Astronaut.

In other Justin news, the singer told reporters last week he plans to launch a tour in 2007.

"We're going to begin in January in North America," Timberlake said. "I don't want to say too much about it, but with the creative ideas that I've come up with, it's going to be an amazing show."

Timberlake, who has yet to decide on the opening acts, admits that capturing the energy of his recent shows will be a challenge in the larger venues.

"The trick for me is to find a way to bring the vibe that we've created — myself and my band, with the club show — to an arena," he said. "That's definitely what I'm going after. Whether we can pull it off or not definitely remains to be seen.

Tha Blue Carpet Treatment is one of the most highly anticipated new albums of the year and will continue to solidify this hip hop icon as one of the most influential musical entertainers of today.

Throughout each record on the forthcoming release, Snoop takes it back to the basics…back to the 'hood, showcasing the original gangsta sound that made this Long Beach rapper an instant household name when he made his debut in 1992 on Dr. Dre's hit song "Deep Cover" and the classic album "The Chronic." After releasing a string of hit records on his last effort that carried a more commercial sound, such as the #1 mega-hit "Drop It Like It's Hot" featuring Pharrell, the rapper decided this time around to bring back Snoop Dogg, the O.G., for his fans. Producers who collaborated on Tha Blue Carpet Treatment include hit makers Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Rick Rock, Pharrell, among others; along with guest appearances by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Ice Cube, The Game, Brandy, R. The premiere single, produced by Pharrell, titled "Vato," featuring B Real from Cypress Hill is a gritty street record that tells an everyday story from the rough LA streets that only the Dogg himself can tell. The video for the single, which was directed by Phillip Atwell, plays like a short cinematic film with an important underlying message: the need for black and brown unity, especially in the wake of violence in recent months in Los Angeles. With Snoop starring as an O.G. and B Real as a Latino gang member, the video also boasts guest appearances by rap veteran Kid Frost and Oscar nominated actor Edward James Olmos to bring attention to an unfortunate, but real issue that continues to plague communities today. Through this groundbreaking video, Snoop is looking to leverage his street credibility and knowledge to launch a much needed push for unity.

This is not the superstar's first attempt to bring forth social awareness to important issues. The highly anticipated world premiere of "Vato" will make its video debut on August 30th on "BET's Access Granted."
